Awards Given
Eggs will be recognized based on the following categories:
Best White
Best Brown
Best Pastel
Best Overall - selected from the Best White, Best Brown, and Best Pastel winners
Categories
White - The color as close as reasonably possible to white.
Brown - The color as close as reasonably possible including dark and light brown. Beiges or creams are classified as pastel.
Pastels - Include blues, greens, pinks, beiges or creams. Judges reserve the right to move eggs from one classification to another when they have been entered in the wrong class according to class definitions.
Judging Criteria
WEIGHT- Each egg shell weigh at least 1.92 ounces and no more than 2.33 ounces. Each egg not meeting this criteria shall have 1 point per egg deducted.
UNIFORMITY OF COLOR- All eggs should be consistent in color. A deduction of 1/4 to 1/2 point per egg is deducted based on inconsistency.
UNIFORMITY OF SHAPE - All eggs should be consistent in shape. A deduction of 1/4 to 1/2 point per egg is deducted based on inconsistency.
SHELL TEXTURE- Each egg is judged on shell texture in each of the following categories. A cut of ¼ to 1/2 point per egg is deducted for each occurrence. Texture types are:
Rough
Ridges
Wrinkled
Porous
Blind check
An egg that is cracked or broken shall have a deduction of 1 point per egg.
CONDITION: A deduction of 1/2 - 1 point per egg shall be deducted for the following:
Dirty - (adhering dirt that would not be so severe to disqualify)
Stained - (non-adhering)
Glassy or shiny surface (i.e., oils, egg whites, moisture)
The entry with the fewest total deductions in each class is declared the winner and others are placed accordingly based on fewest to most deductions.
Contest Rules
You may enter up to two single eggs in each category.
Each egg entered must be produced by participants own backyard/pet chickens.
All eggs shall be properly cleaned, dried and cartoned before being received for judging.
Any entry that is apparently dirty or has an odor shall be disqualified.
You cannot enter if
You are a commercial egg producer/farmer.
Entries not claimed by 6:00 p.m. on the day of the Fair will be donated or discarded.
