DC State Fair wants to celebrate the success of our 3rd annual event and enjoy the change in season by showcasing fall’s produce: sweet potato, pumpkin, butternut squash, parsnip, turnip, beet, and more. So the Fair is joining up with local community garden Wangari Gardens to hold a Fall Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 27, from about noon to 6.
Plan to show off your culinary skills in a fall-themed and/or fall-produce-containing dish for the DC State Fair potluck at around 1 PM–bring your mom’s famous pumpkin pie, treat your neighbors to your take on borscht, or brew up a batch of delicious apple cider!
Wangari will have tons of fun activities for kids and older kids alike–a moon bounce, pumpkin carving, garden workshops, and a seed-saving demo and seed swap hosted by yours truly. More details will be announced as they are finalized in the next week, so keep your eyes peeled, sign up for our newsletter, or just pop by the garden on the 27th!
Wangari Gardens is located between Kenyon and Irving Streets NW, east of Park Place. It’s accessible by the various H bus lines and is a 10-minute walk east of Columbia Heights metro (green/yellow lines).
