Taste Your Tomatoes

It’s been an up-and-down kind of summer for tomatoes–but the ones I’m growing in my plot are finally hitting their stride. If you’re growing your own tomatoes in DC and think they’re jam-packed with flavor, be sure to come out to Columbia Heights Community Marketplace on Saturday, August 18–because DC State Fair will be holding our Tastiest Tomato Contest there!

You can find the contest details and entry form, and those for our other contests, on our Contests page. You aren’t required to fill out the Tastiest Tomato Contest entry form ahead of time, but it helps us to know how many folks to expect. And remember, you can enter two different varieties, too!

Important Details:

Columbia Heights Community Marketplace (just 1 block north of Columbia Heights Metro at the intersection of 14th Street NW and Park Road NW) runs from 9 AM to 1 PM. We’ll be there all day, but we’ll only accept tomatoes for the contest until 10:30. Judging will start around 10:45. After the winners are announced, we will use any unclaimed contest tomatoes in a cooking demonstration around 11:45–so those who don’t grow their own tomatoes can get a taste of the best DC can offer!

    1. Oh no! I’ve caught cute-rats-with-fluffy-tails nibbling on my tomato growing in a pot in the front yard, too.
