DC State Fair Homebrew Contest

The DC State Fair Homebrew Contest is in full swing!

Generously sponsored and hosted by Meridian Pint, the two-stage contest will showcase DC’s most talented homebrewers and their best brews.

The first round of the contest is on now! Stop by Meridian Pint during normal operating hours and drop off two bottles of your best homebrew (minimum size of 12 ounces each, 22 ounces encouraged) by Sunday, August 7. Include a description of the brew–specific style or a specific deviation–for the judges’ consideration.

First-round contestants have the chance to win $100, $50, or $25 gift certificates to Meridian Pint for first, second, and third place, as well as the glory of being Gold, Silver, and Bronze DC State Fair Homebrewers.

The top 25 entrants in the first round will be invited to participate in the second round on Tuesday, August 16, as part of Meridian Pint’s DC Beer Week event schedule. The first-, second-, and third-place contestants will win $100, $50, and $25 gift certificates to Meridian Pint and the opportunity to compete in their end-of-year championship competition.

To compete in the second round, top contestants must bring their brew (kegs are more than welcome!) to Meridian Pint by 5 PM on August 16, for the 6 PM opening. Judging will be done by the public on a best-of-show basis. Meridian Pint will provide table space, name cards, glassware, and ice–homebrewers should supply anything else that they might need. Contestants must be 21 to enter, but there’s no fee to enter the contest.

We thank Meridian Pint for sponsoring, hosting, and helping organize the DC State Fair Homebrew Contest as part of their Home Brewer Match Up series. Another special thanks to Homebrew Contest Committee member Jake Grover, who was also a contestant in the inaugural DC State Fair Homebrew Contest and who organized the event this year.
